Bulgaria is welcoming the mortal remains of Tsar Samuil with a state ceremony at Prince Alexander I Square in Sofia.
They were handed over by Greece to the Bulgarian state more than 1,000 years after the death of one of Bulgaria’s most renowned medieval rulers, Tsar Samuil (997–1014).
Tsar Samuil’s mortal remains were brought back to Bulgaria aboard a Spartan military transport aircraft. A BNT crew was the only media team to travel with the government delegation to Thessaloniki.
