FIRST COMMENTS BY POLITICIANS

The first comments of politicians following the exit polls on October 5th parliamentary elections:

Rumyana Bachvarova, GERB party: “Our frame is a centre-right governance. If the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) decides that they may support all our core theses related to such governance then we may have discussions with them as well.” She said that the biggest responsibility remained for GERB party and they would seek, if they had to, a broader coalition with other political parties. She added that discussing coalitions with the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and Bulgaria without Censorship was unacceptable for GERB. “Within a year and a half, people voted three, even four times in national elections and in a referendum, which may lead to a voter fatigue." Bachvarova noted that less people voted in the European elections in comparison with today’s general elections.

Atanas Merdhzanov, Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) said that BSP suffered a heavy defeat in these elections and the results are disappointing. In his opinion, this resulted from participation in a difficult governance in conditions of high tension in the society. He said that the next Parliament would have a lot of uncertainty, 8 parties to enter the next Parliament supposed serious instability. A lot of efforts will be needed by all political forces in order to form a government, he said.

Bozhidar Lukarski, Reformist Bloc: “The results are yet to be discussed. For us the coalition can be only a centre-right and I don’t think we will concede.”

Angel Dzhambazki, Patriotic Front “NFSB – VMRO”: "A government of national unity is needed, stable governance is needed” and added that there was no place for personal attacks and explanations.
