Five people have been arrested by the Irish authorities in connection with cocaine found on board the Verila ship. The Ministry of Interior told BNT on December 22 that the five were Bulgarian citizens from the crew of the ship.
Half a tonne of cocaine was found on board the ship “Verila”, sailing under the Maltese flag and was detained on Wednesday in an Irish port. The crew consisted of 17 Bulgarians and one Ukrainian.
The Bulgarian ship “Verila”, owned by the Navigation Maritime Bulgare company, has been detained in the Irish port of Foynes and is being investigated by local authorities for alleged drug trafficking. The ship is a bulk carrier. It was carrying grain from Canada to Ireland. On 8 December, it sailed from the Canadian port of Hamilton.
