GALLUP: PUBLIC CONFIDENCE IN BULGARIA’S GOVERNMENT HAS DOUBLED

The support for the ruling parties in Bulgaria remains unchanged, shows the latest Gallup international survey. It also indicates that attitudes of the public to take part in protests against the government are relatively low.

The survey, conducted by Gallup International on the public trust in Bulgarian institutions and in leading political figures, covers the first three months in office of the cabinet led by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.

The results indicate that from the beginning of the term in office, the public confidence in the government has doubled. The confidence in the President has slightly increased since the beginning of the autumn.

If the elections were held today, six or seven parties would enter Parliament.

The ruling parties remain with stable support – the centre-right GERB – 26%, the centre-right “Reformist Bloc” – 6%, the nationalist alliance “Patriotic Front” – 3% and the centre-left “ABV” – 3%.

Electoral support for the liberal “Movement for Rights and Freedom” and the populist coalition “Bulgaria without Censorship” significantly drops.

The survey shows that people have relatively low desire for early elections.

The public trust in Kristalina Georgieva, Bulgaria’s EU Commissioner and Yordanka Fandakova, the Mayor of Sofia, continues to grow. The trust in Bulgaria’s Minister of Health, Petar Moskov, has more than doubled since the beginning of his term in office.

The levels of support for Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov continue to increase. To the question whether the institutions successfully dealt with the natural distaers in 2014, 70% of the respondents gave a negative answer.
