GERB DECLINED MRF’S OFFER OF SUPPORT FOR MINORITY GOVERNMENT

The centre-right GERB did not accept the offer of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) for unconditional support of a single-party minority government. MRF’s leader, Lyutvi Mestan made the offer on 13th of October.

After 3 hours of consultations on 14th of October between the two political parties, Boyko Borisov’s centre-right GERB said they would not continue discussions with MRF about formation of a future government, but would work on keeping the good dialogue with MRF.

GERB wants the future cabinet to have broad parliamentary support among parties and to have stability, which excludes the possibility of having a minority government. GERB insist on “clear political participation” and therefore they would not accept to be supported by a party which does not directly participate in the governance. In the negotiations, GERB and MRF found that there was a full coincidence of positions on 12 from the 18 priorities which were discussed and similarity on the remaining 6, although with slight differences in “the approach, method and details”, said Menda Stoyanova from GERB’s negotiating team.
