A request for dismissal of Yassen Todorov from the post of Deputy Director of the National Investigation Service (NIS) has been submitted to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) by the Deputy Chief Prosecutor and Director of the investigation service, Borislav Sarafov, the press center of the institution told BTA on May 12. It is addressed to the Prosecutors’ College of the SJC.
Yassen Todorov was elected to the post by the Prosecutorial College at the end of 2021 on the proposal of Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev.
On 10 May, it became known that Deputy Prosecutor General and Director of the National Investigation Borislav Sarafov has asked the Prosecutors College of the Supreme Judicial Council to dismiss Yassen Todorov as his deputy.
A day earlier, Sarafov said he might ask for Todorov's dismissal because of the information he gave in connection with the investigation into the bomb explosion near the Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev's motorcade.
On May 9, Sarafov reported that he is considering asking the SJC to have his deputy in the NIS replaced, saying: "His media appearances reflect his own views and have not been coordinated with me or the National Investigative Service".
