Hours before the court-imposed bail measure for Mayor of the coastal city of Varna, Blagomir Kotsev, was due to take effect, one of his lawyers filed an appeal with the Varna District Court.
The appeal challenges the bail amount of BGN 200,000, with the defence arguing that either no pre-trial measure should be imposed, or that the lightest measure—a written undertaking—should apply. The case will now be reviewed by the Varna Court of Appeal.
Kotsev, who spent nearly five months in custody, was released on 28 November. He returned to work at the Varna Municipality on 1 December.
