There is a possibility of a rise in the water levels of dams and rivers in the South Bulgarian district of Plovdiv by the end of January, because of forecast rainfalls.
In order to avoid risks of flooding, the river basins are under monitoring 24 hours a day.
Over 40 satellite systems collect data about the level of water in the rivers Arda, Tundzha and Maritsa.
The early warning system functions as an alert to rising water levels and as a continuous level monitor. The collected data is processed by the Basin Directorate and the Met Institute in Plovdiv and is updated every hour.
