NUMEROUS VILLAGES IN NORTH-WEST OF BULGARIA SUFFER LOSS OF WATER AND ELECTRICITY SUPPLY

67 villages in the North-West Bulgarian region of Vidin and 20 692 households have suffered power cuts because of broken power cables. This was announced by Violeta Tomova, the Head of the Opreational Centre of CEZ Distribution Bulgaria during a meeting of the Crisis Management Staff on 4th of December.

The most affected area is the municipality of Belogradchik, where 17 villages lost electricity supply. The Minister of Energy, Temenuzhka Petkova is expected to take part in an on-site meeting of the Crisis Management Staff, said the Deputy District Governor, Lyubomir Nizamov. Gramada municipality in the region has suffered loss of electricity for a second day. The widespread power outage also affected the Border Checkup Point at Kula.

Due to the disconnected electricity supply, 27 villages and towns in the region have remained without water, because the pumping stations are not working, explained Stoyan Stoyanov, the chief engineer in the Water and Sewerage Company in the town of Vidin.

The electricity has not been disconnected only in two municipalities in the region – Bregovo and Novo Selo.

In the recent days, numerous emergency shutdowns of electricity have been registered in the region because of icing of the conductors of the overhead power lines.

Over 15 teams are working to remove the consequences from the icing of the wires. The electricity supply in the region of Vidin is expected to be restored within a week.
