Diana Kovacheva was elected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe as a Bulgarian judge to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the President of the plenary sitting announced on January 24.
Out of a total of 214 votes cast and 201 valid votes, Kovacheva won a majority of 115 votes over her rivals Galya Valkova (73 votes) and Dragomir Yordanov (13 votes).
Kovacheva is given a nine-year term, which is due to start in three months.
