Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office has received the documents with which the co-chairman of "We Continue the Change" Kiril Petkov waived his immunity, the Prosecutir’s office said on June 29. The supervising prosecutor is yet to decide what action to take.
On 6 June, Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office proposed to the Prosecutor General to request the immunity of Kiril Petkov from Parliament. The proposal was made in connection with pre-trial proceedings concerning the declaration of citizenship.
From the evidence gathered in the course of the investigation, it can be concluded that in the declaration submitted by Petkov to the President, the truth is concealed – the existence of a dual citizenship and the untruth is confirmed that this person is eligible to be elected as a member of Parliament, the Prosecutor’s office said at the time.
The probe began at the specialised Prosecutor's office in August 2021 after several reports were filed that Kiril Petkov had falsely declared that he did not have dual citizenship when he was appointed caretaker Minister of the Economy.
On 21 June, Petkov waived his immunity himself.
