RAINA KABAIVANSKA RETURNS ON THE STAGE OF ANTIQUE THEATRE IN PLOVDIV

15 years after her participation in the “European Month of Culture”, the great opera actress, Raina Kabaivanska, returned on the stage of the Antique Roman theatre in the South Bulgarian city of Plovdiv. This is where more than a decade ago she established the fund for support of young talents. The concert on 29th of September entitled “The Devine” included the performance of 12 students from Kabaivanksa’s most recent master class. The event was organized by the festival “Days of Music in Balabanova House” and was dedicated to the 80th birthday of the famed Bulgarian opera singer.

“This takes me back to my dearest memories. Plovdiv is the city where my father was born. My grandfather lived here. Now I bring my students to the fantastic stage. Wish them every success on the path to the world opera stages”, Kabaivanska said at the opening of the concert.

For two hours the audience enjoyed the brilliant performances of Raina Kabaivanska's students; six Bulgarians - Maria Radoeva, Dessislava Stoimenova, Dimitar Arnaudov, Darina Linkova, Marin Yonchev, Kostadin Mechkov and young singers from Chile, Italy, Serbia, Puerto Rico and South Korea. Three of the Bulgarian students were awarded scholarships for studies in Italy.

Almost 3000 people stood up at the final joint performance of the 2014 master class participants, when the opera diva appeared on stage again.

“I believe that something nice happens every time I see Raina Kabaivanska”, said the artistic director of the festival “Days of Music in Balabanova House”.

During the concert, Raina Kabaivanska received the news that the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture would award her a gold medal for her exceptional contribution to the celebrations dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the world famous Bulgarian basso, Boris Hristov.
