A record number of cruise ships will call on the pier in the North Bulgarian city of Rousse this summer. 430 luxury cruise ships are expected to visit the largest port along the Bulgarian section of the river Danube.
The first cruise ship has already docked in the pier. It arrives in Bulgaria for the first time and was built by a Bulgarian company by special order from a German company for cruise ship charters. The ships have a capacity of 110 – 120 passengers.
Atanas Lokmadzhiev, executive director of a company for cruise tours, says that most of the tourists are from Germany. “Very few passengers are from Bulgaria. We have a small number of cabins which are directly offered on the Bulgarian market – about 10 to 15 seats per week”, he added.
The most popular cruise itineraries are Passau – Budapest and Amsterdam – Budapest. Many passengers choose river cruising and itineraries along Europe’s Rhine, Main, Moselle and others.
Rouse is a port of call and passengers have 1 day to spend in the port city and explore sights and attractions in the region.
