Registration of parties and coalitions for Bulgaria’s local elections began

Registration of parties and coalitions with the Central Election Commission for participation in the 29 October local elections started on September 4. The deadline is 13 September.

About 160 municipal election commissions have been appointed so far. In 84 commissions, no agreement has been reached by the political forces.

The municipal election commissions will start work on 9 September. 265 mayors will be elected. The voting machine software has not yet been upgraded, which is necessary because it was not designed for voting in local elections.

The CEC is in constant correspondence with the software developer. It is not clear how much the upgrade will cost.
