river levels across bulgaria being monitored

River levels in most parts of the country have raised above the high-water thresholds as a result of melting snow, according to the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment.

In many locations in Bulgaria, the soil is too much saturated with moisture, which may cause a surface runoff. River levels are constantly monitored.

Tundzha river in the section near the town of Elhovo and Maritsa river in the section near Svilengrad in the South Bulgaria are reported to have the highest risk of flooding.

The river levels in the areas of Plovdiv in the South Bulgaria, Veliko Turnovo in the North Bulgaria and Yambol in the South-East Bulgaria are closely monitored.

Over the next few days, the water levels are expected to remain unchanged or start receding.

The Ministry of Environment has forwarded guidelines to all relevant institutions to ensure they are prepared to respond appropriately in the event of flooding.
