472 people in total have been evacuated from the areas with highest risk of flooding, said Parvan Sekiranov, Director of Directorate “Operational Activities” within Chief Directorate “Fire Safety and Protection of Population” on 3rd of February.

247 residents were evacuated from the Black Sea coastal district of Varna and 225 from the district of Dobrich in North Bulgaria. The Ministry of Interior (MoI) assures the evacuated people that their property is guarded to prevent any theft or crime.

The good news is that the rain is stopping or easing off and the situation in the region of Varna is getting back to normal.

The situation in the South Bulgarian districts of Smolyan and Kardzhali along Arda river valley is also gradually going back to normal.

The situation remains worrying in the area of Tundzha river valley, but nothing unusual is expected to happen.

"Tsonevo" Dam in Varna district is releasing surplus water with over 100 cubic metres per second. This necessitates the people to remain outside their homes at least until the end of the day. There is no immediate threat for the residents near the reservoir.

The situation in the villages of Grozdyovo and Goren Chiflik near Varna, which saw heavy rainfall over the weekend is calm. The water level of Kamchya River in the region remained unchanged around 23.00 on 2nd of February and was below the critical level. The state of emergency declared on 2nd of February remains in force.

Some residents in the region of Dobrich in North Bulgaria refused to voluntarily leave their homes. According to the Bulgarian Minister of Interior, Vesselin Vouchkov, full evacuation is necessary for the residents of the village of Odrintsi in Dobrich district as a precaution due to a risk of a surge over the next days.

The water levels of rivers and dams in the district of Smolyan in South Bulgaria started to drop, but remain under continuous monitoring. There is no risk of flooding, but the heavy rainfall triggered landslides, the MoI announced.

The search for the missing husband and wife, who were swept away by the floodwaters of the river near the South Bulgarian town of Devin on 1st of February continues. The rescue teams have focused their work in the region of “Tsankov Kamak” dam.

The situation in the South east Bulgarian town of Elhovo is complicated, but no state of emergency was declared. The water level of Tundza river is 472 centimetres, while the critical level is 6 metres.
