Introduction of "Electronic European Toll Service" to make the toll system in Bulgaria interoperable with that in European countries. This was adopted by MPs with amendments to the Road Act at first reading on September 15. The bill was submitted by the caretaker government of Galab Donev, aiming to transpose a European directive into Bulgarian law from 2019.
According to the changes, not the Council of Ministers but the Road Infrastructure Agency will approve the number of toll collection devices in the country, the harmonisation of electronic toll collection systems and the interfaces between the interoperability components. It will facilitate the cross-border exchange of data on vehicle registration and on vehicle owners found to be in default of payment of any toll in the European Union.
