For the second consecutive year, pupils, teachers and members of the public took part in a torchlight procession to mark the Day of the National Revival Leaders on 1 November.
The event was organised by the 'Lyulin' residential district. The procession began at the Church of St Kliment Ohridski and ended in front of t
he newly constructed Church of St Patriarch Evtimiy.
This year, it was held under the slogan “The Children of Lyulin Following in the Footsteps of the National Revival Leaders”. The lit torches symbolise the pursuit of knowledge and the passing of traditions from one generation to the next.

Every year on November 1st, Bulgaria celebrates the Day of the National Revival Leaders (National Awakeners' Day).
The day is devoted to enlighteners, bookmen and fighters for national liberation who preserved the spiritual values of the nation over the centuries.
On that day, Bulgarians pay tribute to those involved in teaching, studying culture or scientific work.
The Day honours the most outstanding figures of the Bulgarian National Revival.
The “Bulgarian National Revival” refers to a period of national integration among Bulgarian people under Ottoman rule. It began in the late 18th century and lasted until the Liberation of Bulgaria in 1878 as a result of the Russo-Turkish war.
