Shortly after midnight, a police patrol in Varna pursued a 19-year-old unlicensed driver in the city centre. The young man had driven through a red light at a major junction. Officers spotted the violation and began to follow him, activating their sirens and lights.
The driver ignored police orders to stop, triggering a chase. Additional patrol units joined the pursuit. In the Maksuda district, the young man lost control of the vehicle and crashed, sending the car into a ravine.
Neither the driver nor his passengers were injured. Checks revealed that the 19-year-old did not hold a driving licence. He refused to be tested for drugs, while a breathalyser reading showed 0.79‰ alcohol.
He has been detained for 24 hours.
