Without warning: Test message of BG-ALERT early warning system received by a large number of mobile phone users

Alarm sound and danger alert were received on the mobile phones of many customers across the country shortly before 19.00 on November 1.

BNT learnt from the Ministry of e-Governance that it was a test of the BG alert early warning system. The Ministry of Interior told BNT that the test was conducted by one of the three major telecoms without coordination with the authorities.

BNT has learned that the real test of the system will take place on November 22 from 12 to 12:30 p.m. and will again be accompanied by a sound and vibration. It is specified that the signal will most likely be received on phones manufactured after 2020.

The notification received earlier this evening refers to the en-alert.bg website, but it is currently unavailable.

Authorities urge not to panic - this is not a real emergency, it is a system being developed jointly by the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of e-Governance.
