“Vazrazhdane” party on December 12 submitted to the National Assembly a proposal to delay Bulgaria’s accession to the eurozone by one year. Their argument is that there is currently no regular government and no approved budget for next year.

Even if the 2025 budget is extended, it does not include provisions for the introduction of the euro.

The party is also insisting that the President convene the National Security Council as quickly as possible — ideally as early as Monday.

Party leader Kostadin Kostadinov does not expect the proposal on the euro to receive majority support in the plenary chamber.

Kostadin Kostadinov, leader of “Vazrazhdane”:
“Unlike all other countries that have joined the eurozone so far, we appear set to enter without a regular cabinet and without a budget. The law allows for the 2025 euro legislation to be extended into 2026, but there is one small detail — nowhere in the 2025 state budget is the word ‘euro’ mentioned.”
