Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski has ordered all the work on the South Stream project to be stopped. He said that a decision on the further development of the project activities will be made once the consultations with the European Commission are concluded. This was announced after the Prime Minister’s a meeting with three visiting US senators on Sunday, 8th June.
“We have suspended the work on the project as a result of an enquiry by Brussels. Depending on the forthcoming consultations with Brussels, we will decide the course of the further work”, the Bulgarian Prime Minister said.
The work on the South Stream project was suspended after the European Commission sent a letter on 2nd June to launch an infringement procedure against Bulgaria over non-conformity with European rules.
Oresharski stated that the project would go forward once all the issues with Brussels were resolved.
