Bulgarians protested this evening, December 10, outside the European Parliament in Brussels, chanting “Resignation!” and holding placards denouncing corruption in their country. The event was organised via social media in solidarity with today’s protests across Bulgaria.
Among the more than 100 participants, there were children, as well as MEPs Radan Kanev (DSB/EPP) and Nikola Minchev (We Continue the Change–Democratic Bulgaria/“Renew Europe”). No speeches were made, and the demonstration was brief due to the lack of official authorisation from local authorities.
The participants in the rally sang the familiar refrain from previous demonstrations, while signs called for a stronger civil society, increased funding for culture, education, and healthcare, and bore slogans such as “Mafia Out!”.
