Key topics such as Bulgaria’s inclusion in the United States Visa Waiver Program, as well as cooperation in the fields of energy security and defence, were discussed by GERB leader Boyko Borissov during a meeting on December 8 with Christopher Smith, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia , who is visiting Bulgaria.
On his Facebook page, Boyko Borissov reports that he informed Christopher Smith of Bulgaria’s readiness to continue implementing all necessary steps to secure visa-free travel for Bulgarian citizens to the United States.
Borissov expressed his gratitude for the decision of the US Government to issue a six-month general licence for the transactions of Lukoil’s companies operating in Bulgaria.
He also assured Christopher Smith that the acquisition of new F-16 Block 70 aircraft, Stryker armoured vehicles, as well as ongoing joint military exercises, are important steps towards enhancing Bulgaria’s combat capabilities and strengthening NATO’s Eastern Flank.
