Bulgaria’s Justice Minister, Nadezhda Yordanova, submitted to the Council of Ministers a proposal for amendments to the Judiciary Act, for the closure of the Specialised Criminal Court, the Specialised Criminal Court of Appeal and their respective Specialised Prosecutor’s Offices, minister Yordanova wrote on her official Facebook page on February 23.
“As Minister of Justice, I have submitted to the Council of Ministers a proposal for amendments to the Judiciary Act, which would close the Specialised Criminal Court, the Specialised Criminal Court of Appeal and their respective Specialised Prosecutor’s Offices. The draft law regulates the status of the judges and prosecutors working in them, as well as the closure of pending cases in compliance with the principle of the unchangeability of the composition,” she wrote.
“The democratic public is at war with the model of the conquered state. This is the battle that members of the public started in 2020 in the squares. This is a battle that we are continuing step by step on the road to restoring the sense of justice in the Bulgarian society. This is judicial reform,” she added.
“Although it remains out of the spotlights, the draft provides for another important change. It proposes to abolish the 'career bonuses' for members of the Supreme Judicial Council, the Chief Inspector and inspectors of the Inspectorate of the Supreme Judicial Council and administrative heads and their deputies. This unfair advantage for career advancement must be ended - the career advancement of magistrates should depend solely on their work as magistrates,” the minister said.
