Parliament prepares to vote on the sixth motion of no confidence against the government this week.
The motion has been submitted by 'We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria', backed by MPs from Alliance for Rights and Freedoms and MECH (morality, Unity, Honour). Its focus is “Failure in economic policy”.
The latest call for the government’s resignation comes in the wake of mass nationwide protests.
WCC–DB argues that it is precisely the economic policy pursued by the Zhelyazkov cabinet that has driven so many people onto the streets.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov has already said the government will not resign and that he is ready to enter into debate on the no-confidence motion.
GERB leader Boyko Borisov has also stated that the cabinet’s resignation is not on the agenda.
The debate on the motion must take place no earlier than three and no later than seven calendar days after its submission. The vote in the chamber is held the following day.
