Officers from the “National Police” general directorate prevented illegal human trafficking. The driver of the vehicle and his female companion were detained with the help of a stop bar. Six foreign nationals without identity documents were found.
The specialised police operation to counter illegal migration was carried out on February 20 by officers of the DG “National Police”. The operation was carried out following an investigation on a signal received at the directorate about the preparation of the transport of illegal migrants by criminal rings from the area of the Bulgarian-Turkish border to the vicinity of Sofia.
After confirming the data and making the necessary arrangements, around 15.00, at the permanent checkpoint on "Trakia" motorway at the tunnels of "Trayanovi vrata", the uniformed officers attempted to stop the driver of the vehicle, "Ford Ranger". After the driver disobeyed and accelerated the speed, his attempt to escape was thwarted with the help of emergency stop bars.
He was identified as a 55-year-old man and his female companion, 41. During the subsequent control in the passenger compartment and luggage compartment, the police officers found 6 foreign nationals who were without identity documents and identified themselves as Syrians. The driver tested positive for drugs.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the Kostenets police station and work on the case is ongoing.
