Buses with tourists wait for 6 hours to cross the 3 km long stretch to Kalotina border check point on July 24. Traffic at the border crossing point between Bulgaria and Serbia is extremely busy because of guest workers from Western Europe travelling to Turkey.
The situation is further complicated by the increased heavy goods vehicles traffic.
Despite the warnings of busy traffic jams on the road from Nis to Sofia and the drivers' attempts to avoid the lines of vehicles by taking the old road, access to the Bulgarian border remains extremely difficult.
Pedestrians walk between cars and trucks in the direction of Bulgaria. Some motorists offend road traffic rules and are driving into oncoming traffic.
