The text criticising the Bulgarian government and Prime Minister Rumen Radev was submitted by the Greens group, which has no Bulgarian MEPs among its members. The text was put forward by German MEP Sergey Lagodinsky, who is of Russian origin.
Eight of Bulgaria’s 17 MEPs voted in favour of the resolution.
They were Andrey Kovatchev, Iliya Lazarov, Eva Maydell, Andrey Novakov and Emil Radev from GERB and the European People’s Party (EPP); liberal MEPs Ilhan Kyuchyuk from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) and Hristo Petrov, known as Itso Hazarta, from We Continue the Change (WCC); and conservative MEP Taner Kabilov.
The two MEPs from Vazrazhdane in the Europe of Sovereign Nations (ESN) group, Stanislav Stoyanov and Rada Laykova, voted against.
Conservative MEP Elena Yoncheva and the two socialists, Kristian Vigenin and Tsvetelina Penkova, abstained.
Those who did not take part in the vote were Radan Kanev (Democratic Bulgaria/EPP), Nikolay Minchev from We Continue the Change and Renew Europe (RE), conservative Ivaylo Valchev from There Is Such a People (ITN), and Petar Volgin from Vazrazhdane and ESN.
