parliament rejected proposal abolition derogation russian oil imports

Bulgaria’s Parliament on November 16 rejected a proposal by GERB, supported by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), to abolish the derogation for importing Russian oil in the country within three day after the amendments to the Law on Control over the Implementation of Restrictive Measures in view of Russia's actions destabilizing the situation in Ukraine are promulgated in the Sate Gazette.

This provoked MPs from parliamentary groups of the two parties to leave the plenary chamber just before the vote of no confidence in the government takes place.

Earlier this morning, a meeting of the Security Council was held at the Council of Ministers. After it, Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov announced that the earliest Lukoil could operate entirely without Russian oil is 1 March 2024.

Security Council meeting ended without agreement between WCC-DB and GERB on the derogation of Russian oil imports

GERB and MRF left the Security Council meeting early and accused We Continue the Change –Democratic Bulgaria of working for Russian interests by refusing to remove the derogation within three days (after promulgation of law changes).
