Political reactions after the swearing-in of the new Constitutional Court judges

GERB leader Boyko Borissov once again defended the election of Desislava Atanasova as Constitutional Court judge and announced that she is no longer a member of the party. He also commented on the absence of President Rumen Radev from the ceremony.

"The most transparent procedure and hearing of both new judges, then a debate in Parliament all day. When he (the President) appoints a constitutional judge, from his quota, he unilaterally decides, without a hearing. I congratulate Belazelkov and Ms Atanasova on their election and I hope that they will strictly implement the laws of this country," said Boyko Borissov, Chairman of GERB.

Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Chairman of the parliamentary group, Delyan Peevski, commented that the absence of the head of state from the ceremony did not matter.

"It does not matter, he is just a guest. Ask Kornelia Ninova, she is friends with the President, he is following her orders," said Delyan Peevski, Chairman of the MRF parliamentary group.

Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader Kornelia Ninova, for her part, expressed satisfaction that the plea made by the socialists to the head of state, not to attend the oath taking, was fulfilled.

"We urged him not to go to the swearing-in ceremony. It is a good decision. The changes in the Constitution and the election of constitutional judges were originally wrong and that is why we have launched our appeal to the Constitutional Court, so we appreciate it positively - this is our appeal and he has listened to it," said Kornelia Ninova.

“Vazrazhdane”, BSP and “There is Such a People” lodged an appeal with the Constitutional Court on the unconstitutionality of the election of the two constitutional judges elected from the quota of the Parliament. How the CC will rule, will be seen in the coming months.
