President Rumen Radev will refer to the Constitutional Court over the changes in the basic law, which the Bulgarian lawmakers adopted conclusively on December 20.

According to the head of state, the changes in the Constitution undermine our foundations as a democratic, rule of law and sovereign state. He defined the amendments as an experiment for which the Bulgarians will pay a heavy price.

"It is now clear that the voted changes will not solve the major problems of justice and will not guarantee justice for the Bulgarian citizens, for which purpose they were initiated. On the contrary, they undermine our foundations as a democratic, rule of law and sovereign state. One clear goal is visible behind these changes - for the ruling parties to retain their influence even when they completely lose credibility.

With the admission of foreign citizenship in the management of the country, they show that the presence of double standards of loyalty to Bulgaria is not a problem for them.

For the experiment with the Constitution, the Bulgarians will pay a heavy price, and as the head of state, the appeal to the Constitutional Court is my duty," the head of state said.

The President accepted the guard of honour on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the feat of Captain Dimitar Spisarevski. He then laid a wreath in front of the monument to the pilot who died in World War II.

80 years ago - on December 20, 1943, during the bombing of Sofia, the pilot died while protecting the sky over the city and the residents of the capital. Military pilots Dimitar Spisarevski and Georgi Kyumurdzhiev died defending Sofia during a bombing raid in World War II.
