The strong wind and snowfall have caused road closures, power outages and disruptions in water supply in many villages in Shumen district, Northern Bulgaria. Despite the complicated situation, no people were injured. However, many vehicles were stuck in the snow drifts, including four fire engines. 49 people were evacuated from their cars.
Communication has been hampered in 6 municipalities in which electricity supply is still disrupted.

More than 300 signals have been received due to the bad weather.
The wind cut power lines leaving 31 settlements without electricity. Water supply was also disrupted in some.

"Starting from 9.30 a.m. on 19 November 2023, a state of emergency has been introduced for a period of 7 days on the territory of Shumen - Novi Pazar, Venets, Hitrino, Nikola Kozlevo, Kaolinovo and Kaspichan," said prof. Dobromir Dobrev, District Governor of Shumen.
Snow drifts were formed on key road sections. Cars remained stuck in the snow trap for hours and people were evacuated from them.
Due to closed roads to Silistra, Russe and Varna, traffic was diverted on detour routes. More than 100 signals for help have been received by the police.
