Celebrations of U.S.- Bulgarian relations have been held throughout the year and will culminate on September 19.
President Georgi Parvanov was a special guest.
"Relations between the United States and Bulgaria are an example of civilized, modern relations between a great power and a small nation. For all our differences with President Bush, we had a very good and fruitful dialogue. In the White House he very clearly and firmly supported Bulgaria's membership in the European Union, he dared to say then, without being coherent, without our expectation, that Bulgaria is a leader in the Balkans," said Georgi Parvanov, President of the Republic of Bulgaria 2002-2012.
