Two Russian sailors died after a ship incident near Varna. The incident occurred around 9.00 on 3 July on board a deep-sea vessel that was passing through Bulgarian waters.

The captain of the ship had reported two seamen dead, Russian nationals, aged 32 and 58, a castor and a cook. The incident occurred aboard the Milford, which was sailing under the Belize flag.

The ship will remain in the port of Varna-East until investigators complete their work.

There is an initial version of where the sailors died. They have been extricated with the help of the Varna Fire Fighting Department.

"There is a pipe in the hold of the ship, a connection to the overboard water. How did they get there? Was it suction, did they get into that pipe on their own and what they were doing there is the job of the investigating authorities. Everybody has a different version. Initial information has been gathered, a forensic examination has been assigned. Varna District Prosecutor's Office is working on the case," said Valentin Enchev - Director of the "Maritime Administration" - Varna.

The "Milford" dredger worked on the extension of the port of Varna, then went to Burgas, where she was involved in similar activities. Last night she left Burgas for Constanta to refuel. The ship's crew included 14 people.

The rest of the sailors are to be interviewed. The case will be supervised by the "National Transport Investigation Board".
